Over time the population grows, but the spaces are shrinking. Israel being a small country is developing towards the sky, we see more and more apartment buildings and yes, they are getting smaller.
A small space is not necessarily a disadvantage. Small spaces are difficult to design, but if we look at it positively, it is just a matter of prioritizing the basics in our lives and I call that - quality of life, bringing to our lives the essential, the important things.
There are several factors to consider when making a space feel spacious, harmonious, beautiful, and functional. These are my 6 tips to achieve it:
01 Prioritize and select the essential
This is surely the most difficult exercise, since we believe that our belongings define us and give us value, and in a way, they do, but today we are choosing quality over quantity, so it is time to decide what is important to you, prioritize yourself and your lifestyle. Do you like to invite friends over? Prioritize your living room, or your kitchen and dining room if you like to cook. Get rid of things that you no longer use, or that you rarely use. Do you really need everything you own?

02 Selection and distribution of furniture
Choose furniture of the appropriate size for the space you want to design, keep in mind that less is more when we talk about small spaces. Less furniture and adequate size (proportional to your space) is better than many pieces of furniture or small objects. Personally, I would go deeper into this step, take measurements of your space, and draw it in the free template attached at the end of this article. Also, measure and draw the furniture you want, this way you will make sure that your ideas fit the space.

03 Plan your storage correctly
Although we got rid of the less important items and chose which spaces we are going to prioritize, we must find a place for everything we decide to keep. Think vertically, take advantage of the walls and the height of your space, combine between closed and open storage. Closed storage keeps your home tidy. Add wall shelves or an open bookcase to display decorative objects or plants that reflect your personality and lifestyle.

04 Correct lighting
Light, one of our basic needs for almost all day-to-day activities. And in small spaces we need it even more because light causes a feeling of spaciousness. Natural lighting is as important as artificial lighting. So, for your windows, use light and semi-transparent textiles that allow sunlight to reach all corners of your space. Regarding artificial lighting, use ceiling-mounted lamps that spread light over the entire space. Also, add table or floor lamps to illuminate spots that remain dark.

05 Choose reflective surfaces or materials
This is surely an advice that you have heard many times - "mirrors help increase the feeling of spaciousness", and although it is true that reflective surfaces disperse light through spaces, thus making them feel more spacious, I want to advise you to go further with your imagination and use the reflection of other materials, such as choosing a reflective finish for your kitchen cabinets or simply painting a wall or more with satin effect paint.

06 Use a large rug
We believe that in a small space everything should be mini, but in the case of a rug, look for the largest size that fits in your space, preferably under your furniture, it will create an effect of continuity which will help create spaciousness.
